For nearly a decade, the psychologists have worked with local school admission teams. Independent schools such as Harker School, Nueva School, and Helios School require IQ assessments and we are well versed in the requirements. There are also other programs (e.g., camps for gifted students) and out-of-state schools that require such testing, which we have enjoyed partnering with.
A neuropsychological assessment is an in-depth standardized assessment of understanding how the brain processes a variety of information impacting functioning in all apsects (including academic functioning, behavior, and emotions). A neuropsychologist does not simply administer tests, they understand and integrate the results to achieve more information regarding your youth and what next steps will help them achieve most sucessful outcomes.
A psychoeducational assessment is an in-depth standardized assessment of identifying how the brain processes a variety of information impacting one's educational abilities. These assessments are more limited and do not uncover other cognitive processes (e.g., attention, executive functioning, etc.). This may be a nice option if there is a very clear difficulty in reading, writing, or problem solving/calculations.
Unsure of which assessment will be most helpful? This is where a consultation with a psychologist will be beneficial.
